ATC simulation and training system

Air Traffic Control Simulator (ATC Simulator) of “Aerotechnica-MLT” production consists of:   

  • Controller working positions (trainees);
  • Pilot working positions;
  • Instructor working positions;
  • Supervisor working position;
  • Server for recording controller interface and voice exchange between controllers and pilots.

 All working positions are equipped with radio communications facilities based on Touch screens, displays, keyboards and mouse manipulators.

ATC Simulator is developed as open architecture system. Special components include: Supervisor working position, server for recording controller interface and voice exchange.

Equipment of all working positions is unified and identical. Instructor working positions are defined by system administrator when required configurations are created. The number of configurations is not limited.

ATC Simulator can operate in the common training mode (one exercise is modeled at all Simulator components) as well as in the modular mode (several exercises are performed simultaneously in training modules).   

Air Traffic Control Simulator (ATC Simulator) is used both as part of Automated Air Traffic Control Systems (ATCS) of own production and independently. ATC Simulator depending on its missions can be developed as a system simulator with support of ACC/APP/TWR functions, or as a functional simulator (e.g. ACC or ATC TWR Simulator).

ATC TWR Simulator comprises AIR, GMC and Supervisor working positions as well as Tower Visualization equipment.

ATC ATNAVICS Simulator and MOTS/TTCS tactical visual simulator are implemented based on common ATC Simulator and Tower Simulator (ATC TWR).

ATC Simulator is intended for training of military specialists in procedures for departures, arrivals organization at tactical level aerodromes and approach directions with emulation of ATNAVICS and MOTS/TTCS procedures.

ATC Simulator comprises:

  • ATNAVICS, MOTS/TTCS instrumental workstations and combination thereof;
  • Equipment for environmental modeling and visualization;
  • System for modeling of aircraft and vehicle movements, events and situations;
  • Interface, command and event Recording and Playback System;
  • Training evaluation system.


ATCCS provides modeling of:

  • Movement of aircraft which performance characteristics and corresponding flight plans are in accordance with the predefined exercises with possibility of online alteration by Supervisor;
  • Activation of aircraft control or aerodrome status events upon receipt of verbal commands or commands issued by light pen;
  • Meteorological events, consideration of meteorological events for modeling air situation, vehicle movements and environment visualization;
  • Planned before-hand or operational events at the airfield or on aircraft or transport vehicles;
  • Detection and tracking of aircraft and vehicles by radar sensors (PSR, SSR, PAR), detection of weather phenomena and clouds
  • MOTS visualization;
  • Lighting and light indication of airfield and runway;
  • Binocular view of part of MOTS visualized environment;
  • Co-ordination with adjacent ATC Centers;
  • CPDLC data link communication;
  • Communications system.

All of the ATCS System functionality is provided in the same way as in the operational system based on the simulated data.

Tower visualization provides display of 360-degree 3D airfield environment from a position of the aerodrome control tower (360 degrees and plus or minus 90 degrees vertically) with capability to provide a visual display with specific field of view (FOV), for example: 45 degrees vertical by 120 degrees horizontal.

The simulator provides a dynamic change of time of day and weather conditions.

Training Scenarios

Training scenario is set by the operators in the form of exercise. Scenario contains description of routes of aircraft, vehicles, people, flocks of birds, clouds as well as related events, weather phenomena and airfield components. Exercises are generated in tabular form with addition graph designing tool.

After exercise is launched aircraft and vehicle positions are emulated on the basis of flight plan information.

Modeling of aircraft movement takes following into account:

  • Aircraft performance characteristics;
  • Wind speed at flight level;
  • Aircraft load factor;
  • Wind speed and friction coefficient at the airfield.

Air Navigation equipment (PSR, SSR, PAR) provide tracking of aircraft and vehicles within defined detection areas.

Aircraft positions are displayed at instrumental workstations, aircraft and vehicles at the airfield are displayed on aerodrome visualization screens.

Aircraft movements support both instrumental flight rules (IFR) and consequently departures/arrivals as per standard SID/STAR routes and visual flight rules (VFR). VFR flights are controlled by the pilot on the basis of controller instructions.

Training supervisor may introduce unexpected events in real time that will be considered further in the course of the exercise.

ATCCS allows to perform several independent trainings simultaneously. The number of training groups is determined by the number of pilots.

Playback of recorded data can be performed to assess operator actions or for training purposes.
